Beyond the Slopes: Your Guide to Community Life in Killington, VT
Killington gets 2.5 million visitors a year for the skiing. But the people who stick around? They stay for the community. Here is your guide to the organizations, events, and gathering spots that make this mountain town feel like home.
When people think of Killington, they picture powder days and chairlift lines. And fair enough. But if you work remotely from here or you are thinking about it, the real question is: what is life like when you are not on the mountain?
The answer: surprisingly full. Killington has a tight-knit year-round community with recreation programs, a beloved local library, a brand new ice rink, youth sports, summer concerts, and the kind of neighbors-helping-neighbors energy that is hard to find in bigger towns.
Here is your guide to getting involved.
Killington Parks and Recreation
The Killington Parks and Recreation Department is the heartbeat of local community programming. Run by Recreation Director Rebecca Claffey and her team, they offer year-round activities for all ages. Think youth basketball, open gym nights, summer camps, and seasonal events.
Their office is open Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 2 PM, and you can reach them at recdirector@killingtontown.com or (802) 422-3717. Registration for programs runs through their MyRec portal.
Current Programs
- •Mini-Hoopers for 1st and 2nd graders
- •Double Diamond Youth Hockey program
- •Open Gym sessions for the community
- •Public Ice Skating daily at the Johnson Recreation Ice Rink
The Johnson Recreation Ice Rink
One of the newest additions to Killington's community infrastructure is the Johnson Recreation Ice Rink , a brand new outdoor skating facility that opened in late December. It has quickly become a community gathering spot.
Rink Details
- ●Public Skating: Daily, 9 AM to 9 PM
- ●Hockey Practice: Thursday afternoons 3:30 to 4:30 PM (rink closed to public skating)
- ●Warming Hut: On site for cold days
- ●Volunteer: Email recadmin@killingtontown.com to help out
The rink is a community-funded project, and they are still accepting donations. Whether you are a figure skater, a hockey player, or just want to do a few laps with a hot cocoa afterward, it is the kind of place that brings people together on a cold Vermont evening.
Pro tip for remote workers: take a midday skate break. The rink is usually quieter during work hours, and nothing resets your brain like 20 minutes on the ice.
Sherburne Memorial Library
The Sherburne Memorial Library at 2998 River Road is the living room of the Killington community. Free to all Vermont residents and Killington property taxpayers, it is so much more than a place to borrow books.

Why This Matters If You Work Remotely
Remote work solves the commute problem but creates a new one: isolation. The biggest reason people leave remote-friendly mountain towns is not the weather or the WiFi. It is loneliness.
Killington is different because the community infrastructure actually exists. There are places to meet people that are not bars. There are programs for your kids. There is a library that throws spelling bees and hosts free concerts. There is an ice rink where you will see the same faces every week.
And if you want a dedicated workspace where you can meet other remote professionals, grab a coffee, and get into a flow state with VTel gigabit fiber internet, that is exactly what Slope Space was built for. We are right here in Mountain Green Resort, five minutes from the access road, open 24/7.
The mountain gets you here. The community keeps you here.
