The Complete Guide to Coworking Spaces in Vermont (2026)

8 min read
By Greg Cash

As the founder of Slope Space in Killington, I have visited and researched every coworking space on this list. I know what remote workers actually need because I hear it every day from our members, and I have experienced the same challenges myself while working remotely from ski towns across Vermont.

Vermont's remote work scene is booming. From Burlington's tech hub to mountain towns embracing digital nomads, coworking spaces are popping up across the Green Mountain State. But which one is right for you? This guide breaks down everything you need to know, based on real experience.

The Vermont Coworking Landscape in 2026

Vermont has seen a 35% increase in remote workers since 2020, driven by pandemic-era shifts and the state's Remote Worker Grant Program. This influx has created demand for professional workspaces beyond the home office. Today, you'll find coworking options in Burlington, Montpelier, Brattleboro, and increasingly in mountain communities like Killington and Stowe.

But not all coworking spaces are created equal. The right choice depends on your priorities: location, amenities, community, pricing, and lifestyle fit.

What to Look For in a Vermont Coworking Space

Reliable Internet

Vermont's rural areas can have spotty connectivity. Look for spaces with fiber internet (100+ Mbps) and backup systems. Ask about uptime guarantees.

Community Fit

Are you looking for tech startup energy, creative professionals, or outdoor enthusiasts balancing work and play? Community culture varies widely.

Location & Access

Do you need urban walkability, proximity to outdoor recreation, or free parking? Vermont's geography means trade-offs between convenience and adventure.

Pricing Structure

Day passes, part-time, full-time, dedicated desks, private offices — make sure the pricing model matches how you actually work.

Burlington: Vermont's Coworking Hub

Burlington dominates Vermont's coworking scene with established players and a vibrant tech community:

Green Mountain Coworking

Location: Downtown Burlington
Pricing: ~$250-400/month for dedicated desk
Vibe: Tech startups, developers, digital agencies

Solid choice for serious professionals who need a downtown location and access to Burlington's startup ecosystem. Strong community events and networking opportunities.

Karma Bird House

Location: South End Arts District, Burlington
Pricing: ~$200-350/month
Vibe: Creative professionals, artists, small business owners

More laid-back than Green Mountain, with a creative community focus. Great if you're in design, media, or creative consulting.

The Burlington trade-off: Strong professional community and urban amenities, but higher costs, parking challenges, and you're trading mountain access for city convenience.

The Underserved Mountain Communities

Here's the gap in Vermont's coworking market: mountain areas are drastically underserved.

Stowe, Killington, Sugarbush, Jay Peak — Vermont's iconic mountain towns attract thousands of remote workers and digital nomads, especially during ski season. Yet professional coworking infrastructure has lagged behind. Most remote workers end up working from:

  • Coffee shops (noisy, unreliable WiFi, awkward for Zoom calls)
  • Vacation rental kitchens (isolated, unprofessional for client meetings)
  • Resort lobbies (designed for guests, not workers)

The result? Remote workers in mountain towns struggle to find the balance they moved to Vermont for. They came for ski-and-work lifestyle but end up choosing between productivity and access to the mountain.

Coworking Beyond Burlington: Central & Southern Vermont

Burlington dominates the conversation, but coworking is growing across Vermont. Here's what's available in the central and southern parts of the state, and how each option fits different needs.

Rutland (20 min from Killington)

Vermont's third-largest city has two coworking options in its downtown core:

  • The Hub CoWorks at 67 Merchants Row is a 24,000 SF space operated by CEDRR with hotdesks, dedicated desks, private offices, conference rooms, and a podcasting studio. Half-day passes start at $20.
  • DX2 Properties - Rutland CoWork offers dedicated spaces, shared workstations, and private offices in a smaller format.

Both are solid traditional downtown coworking spaces. The key difference with Slope Space? We're a resort-based workspace at the foot of Killington with pool, hot tub, and fitness center access included. If you want a downtown office vibe, Rutland delivers. If you want to ski at lunch and hit the hot tub after work, that's us.

Manchester (~1.5 hours from Killington)

Southern Vermont's shopping and resort destination has two coworking spaces:

  • The Barn at Center Hill at 106 Center Hill offers a rustic-meets-modern vibe with fiber internet, punch passes ($35-170/mo for 1-6 days), a $45 day pass, and All Access at $280/mo. Private offices from $600+/mo.
  • Elevate Business Hub at 3505 Richville Road in Manchester Center offers Core memberships at $197/mo (business hours), Plus at $249/mo (24/7), and private offices from $750+/mo.

Good options if you're based in southern Vermont near Stratton or Bromley. But Manchester is a different market entirely from Killington, about 1.5 hours apart.

Okemo / Ludlow Area (35 min from Killington)

About 35 minutes south of Killington, the Ludlow area around Okemo Mountain has a growing remote worker community drawn by the ski lifestyle and charming village center. Unlike Rutland and Manchester, Ludlow currently has no dedicated coworking space.

We wrote an entire guide for Okemo-area remote workers looking for professional workspace: Coworking Near Okemo: Your Guide to Working Remotely Near Ludlow, VT.

The takeaway: Vermont's coworking landscape is growing, but options thin out quickly once you leave Burlington and Rutland. For anyone in the central Vermont mountains, the question becomes what kind of workspace experience you want, not just whether one exists.

Making Your Decision

Choose Burlington coworking if:

  • You need frequent in-person networking with Burlington's tech/startup community
  • Urban walkability and city amenities are priorities
  • You don't prioritize outdoor recreation access

Choose mountain coworking (Slope Space) if:

  • You moved to Vermont (or visit) for the outdoor lifestyle
  • You want ski access without sacrificing professional workspace
  • Lower cost of living and workspace costs matter
  • You value a community of outdoor-focused remote workers

The Future of Vermont Coworking

Vermont's coworking market is maturing. Burlington will continue to dominate professional services and tech, but mountain communities are the next frontier. As remote work normalizes and "workcations" become standard practice, expect more spaces like Slope Space to emerge.

The winning formula? Professional workspace infrastructure + unbeatable outdoor access + authentic community. That's the Vermont advantage.

Whether you choose Burlington, the mountains, or split your time between both, Vermont's coworking options are stronger than ever. The key is matching the space to your lifestyle and work style.
